Cellulose is well known as one of the most abundant biodegradable materials in nature and has received considerable interest inboth academic and industrial fields (Fu, Zhang, & Yang, 2013; Rukaet al., 2013). Fig. 1 shows the number of publications based on bac-terial cellulose studies which were done annually after 2000. Theincreasing number of publications indicates the growing interestin bacterial cellulose. The years 2010, 2011 and 2012 have been themost productive in terms of publications. From the current trendsand sessions on the subject, which have been added to nationaland international meetings of the Technical Association of the Pulpand Paper Industry and the American Chemical Society, it can beinferred that in coming years research on BC will continue at a highfrequency.
