Culture awareness: oral activities; culture plays an important role in shaping communicative competence in
speakers. Brown and Yule(1983,p.40)said, “a great number of cultural assumptions which would be normally
presupposed, and not made explicit by native speakers, may need to be drawn explicitly to the attention of
speakers from other cultures.” Thus Teachers can present situations in which there are cultural
misunderstandings and students can be asked to analyse what went wrong and why, which will force them to
think about how people in target culture perceive things, and which will definitely provide a deeper insight of
their cultural understanding.
