Although
the clones were only evaluated in a short-term experiment, the
data do not point to the possibility of an enhanced salt tolerance
of these plants in long-term experiments and, in principle,
the selection of the genetically most tolerant individuals of the
population by high selection pressure during haloconditioning
should be discarded (according to their condition of F1 hybrids),
but it is possible that these individuals were more receptive in
undergoing the epigenetic modifications required for increasing
salt tolerance.
