I am so proud to be associated with the Royal National Mission to Deep Sea Fishermen in Brixham The good work of the Mission has been done nationally since 1881 for any fisher folk struggling with adversity, distress and bereavement. Without fear or favour and regardless of creed and in keeping with its Christian roots, the Mission does what it says on the tin! That is the reason why I ran Marathons etc to raise funds and that is why I am proud to run Fishstock Brixham as a fund-raiser for the Brixham Mission. There are many hundreds of wonderful fishermen and families who support the Mission, knowing the good it does for the community. It is a sad reflection of human nature the world over that there always will be some who abuse charity, taking advantage of the hand-out and the hand-up. They will be judged at the due time, but we should all remember that for evil to triumph it only takes good people to sit on their hands and to do nothing! Please note, taking charitable donations falsely is just as much fraud as cheating on benefits and evading taxes, so if you have evidence of a fraudster then you can either sit on your hands and do nothing, or you can do the right thing and report him to the proper authorities. You know my number if you want to talk in confidence. You can also do the right thing by supporting the Mission itself through your good times so that they have aid available for your bad times! I have hung up my marathon running shoes for good reasons of an aging body, but I will be doing something for sponsorship this year, especially in recognition of the generally well-received aid given in response to the extended period of storms and down-time. Please also support Fishstock Brixham for the Mission on Saturday 13th September this year.
