On examination he was found to be clinically jaundiced and apyrexial. There was no lymphadenopathy ; chest and heart were normal; the abdomen was soft with no enlargement of gall bladder, liver, or spleen; rectal examination disclosed only pale stools; and urine contained bilirubin .
