Properties of the loose-fill foams highly depend on raw
materials and process parameters used in production. Addition
of plasticiser or other additives, different temperatures
of processing are causing changes in products properties. All
starch-based foams had high open-cell content. The expansion
was attributable to the escape of water as steam during
processing, resulting more than 80% open cells. Steam could
easily rupture the cell walls because thermoplastic starches
have poor melt strength. After exposure to high humidities
and temperatures, most foam exhibited a very small increase
