Increased nongaming recreational computer use was associated
with better self-concept and social functioning based on the WFIRS-P.
Much of nongaming computer time is spent on social networking
activities such as ‘Facebook’ and e-mail, and participation in these
activities may help improve social confidence and connectedness.
Our data are only correlational and, thus, this may simply reflect that
youth with better social functioning use more social networking.
