Germplasm is the fundamental unit of plant breeding and is the common element to almost all relationships in a breeding database. Germplasm can refer to an individual with a single genotype or a genetic population with multiple genotypes.
Germplasm can be defined in multiple ways:
• Single planting unit: seed, plant, tuber, cutting, ect.
• Population: Bag of seed or multiple plants
• Plot: Planting units or population associated with a nursery or trial plot
