Hardy (2007) found that when the self-punishment behavior of self-leadership is
perceived favorably, it helps to change ineffective behaviors into more productive actions
(p. 2). Hardy learned that "individuals can use self-punishment to provide feedback for
correcting failures and undesirable behaviors. When viewed positively, self-punishment
can lead to the reshaping of ineffective behaviors into more productive ones" (p. 2).
