2.1. Oil extraction method-TPP (three phase partitioning method)
In this method the slurry was prepared by grinding Jatropha
seed kernels (100 g/600 ml) in distilled water. The pH of the slurry
was 6.5. The appropriate amount of ammonium sulphate was
added (50ml) and vortexes gently, followed by addition of
600 ml of tert-butanol. The slurry was then incubated at 25 C for
1 h for the three phase formation. The upper organic layer was collected
and tert-butanol was at 85 C distilled to obtain oil. The
amounts of oil recovered were calculated as percentages of total
oil present in Jatropha seed kernels. Total oil present is 34.33%.
