America is the superpower of our time and the lyrics of the national anthem proclaim
that they are “the land of the free and the home of the brave” (The Star Spangled Banner). But
in a different perspective on things, it becomes apparent that the ideal world the Americans
believe they live in, is actually closer to a dystopia than one first may believe. Are Americans
really free or are they being controlled without knowing? This essay will discuss, and
examine whether Suzanne Collins's dystopian novel The Hunger Games is a critique of
contemporary American media or not, with a focus on media violence and control.
