2.3.2. Nutrient analysis
To determine the nutrient concentration of shoots, dried shoots
were sent to Stratford Agri Analysis (1131 Erie St. PO Box 760, Stratford,
ON, N5A 6W1). For each sample, we obtained concentrations
of Ca, P, K, Mg, Na, Fe, Cu, Mn, Zn, and B using a DC Plasma-Echelle
Spectrometer (Beckman Instruments). Nitrogen was determined
using the Macro Kjeldahl digestion method (AOAC 984.13) (AOAC
International, http://www.aoac.org).
