Many students at Siena College in New York became sick with measles just before their college’s basketball team was going to play in its league tournament. Team players were all given shots to protect them against the disease, but league officials were nervous about letting Siena fans with fans of other schools. A decision was made not to allow any fans to attend the basketball games.
Imagine a basketball tournament with no screaming fans, no peppy cheerleaders, no noise at all. There was an eerie quiet in the gym during the games. The coaches found the most difficult. They had to whisper instructions to their players so that the other coaches and players wouldn’t hear. Siena won the tournament, but the players had to wait be cheered.
