Creating cover pages and collections
In some instances, instagram stories are framed very clearly
by an initial instagram that sets the scene for those that follow
in much the same way that a cover page does for a storybook.
Six out of 16 of the recruited participants in dataset
two created some sort of cover page for their sequence of
instagrams. These instagrams serve to locate the documented
experience within the museum, establishing a context for
those that follow. In the creation of these cover pages, users
rely upon different features available in the mobile application.
Sometimes the caption explicitly mentions the name of
the museum, sometimes hashtags indicate the location and
sometimes the first instagram is checked-in at the location.
A particularly conspicuous example of a cover page is a
picture of the entrance of the museum (Figure 4). However,
this is the only example in all our material where this occurs.
Usually, the cover page consists of a motif that is emblematic
of the museum, such as the elephant or the blue
whale. An alternative approach is to document the people
visiting the museum as a way of introducing the sequence.
