toxic metals such as cadmium, chromium, copper, zinc, lead, mercury, selenium, arsenic, gold, silver and nickel into an
environment. Heavy metals such as zinc, lead and chromium have a number of applications in basic engineering works,
paper and pulp industries, leather tanning, organochemicals, petrochemicals fertilizers, etc. Major lead pollution is
through automobiles and battery manufacturers. As a result, removal of these toxins from industrial effluents has
become an important priority that is reflected in tightening and enforcement of environmental regulations.
