Torrential rain has battered the eastern province since Friday. Aranyaprathet fell victim to floods as water from Promhode canal in neighbouring Watthana Nakhon district moved into the border town, which lies on lower ground, the centre under the Information and Communication Technology Ministry said.
Muang district has also suffered severe floods, as water flowed down from Soi Dao mountain and other areas on Sunday night. Flood levels in some villages reached the rooftops of buildings.
Sharply rising water caught locals off guard, said Theera Kumwong, 41, from Ban Ludkasang village, so nobody had time to move their belongings to higher ground.
