The most common way to treat chondromalacia patellae is by strengthening the quadriceps muscle, because it has a very significant role in the movement of the patella. Stretching of the vastus lateralis and strengthening of the vastus medialis is often recommended, but they are difficult to isolate because they have the same innervation and insertion. Therefore, it’s easier to strengthen the whole quadriceps.
