available at good purity. SC−CO2 has the feature to be used for
hydrophobic or slightly hydrophilic compound extraction.
Generally, when the pressure inside the extraction vessel
increased, additional hydrophilic compounds could be
extracted. When more hydrophilic compound extraction is
targeted, the solvent’s polarity has to be changed by using more
polar organic solvents (i.e., ethanol, methanol, and ethyl
acetate), mixed or not with water, and known as cosolvents or
modifiers (Figure 5).
