OUR FINAL VOLUNTEERS
Our two volunteers returned to the UK this month after a year teaching English in Nakhon Sawan schools. They will be our last volunteers and we have now discontinued the program.
The good news is that there will still be British volunteers teaching in the city. The Municipality now has the budget to sponsor future volunteers itself; the next pair arrive from the UK later in August. SET’s only specific responsibility has been to pay the volunteers’ monthly support money, so under the new arrangement we will have no responsibility at all, hence the program’s formal cancellation.
On St Valentine’s Day, children at Rasami British International
School in Bangkok held their annual ‘Ring of Friendship’ fundraiser
for our students. This year they raised close to 33,000 Bt; a record
for the event. In the Ring of Friendship, the children lay coins
round the school playground, often making heart shapes or other
messages of love and friendship. We’ll be using the gift to help
our own youngest children at a tiny village school in Sisaket, in the
far northeast. The small cash grants will help the children buy
