The main objective of the present study is to analyse the
evolution of sustainable development indicators in Romania
in connection with the solid waste management systems over
a period of 10 years, from 2004 to 2013. The period is selected
based on the availability of data on the solid waste management
system and considering also the political, economic,
societal changes that Romania faced. The classification of indicators
related to solid waste management in 4 tiers, starting
with general socio-economic indicators to sustainability
indicators offers a complex perspective on the waste related
issues, being the first approach of this kind applied for the
analysis of the Romanian solid waste management system.
