The main objective of technology performance evaluation by projects is
to provide concrete evidence that farmers will be better off if they practice
agroforestry than with other alternatives. It also helps to obtain objective
information which can be used to improve technical extension recommendations
and to identify modifications to make technologies more effective and
more adoptable. By providing access to farmers' indigenous knowledge and
experimentation, projects may in fact have a great potential to contribute
significantly to technology generation in agroforestry [Raintree and Hoskins
1988].
