Stars in the Milky Way
- The Milky Waycomprises at least 200 thousand million(>2×1011) stars in a flattened disk-shaped system, known as the Galaxy.
- The diameter of this system is about 100,000 light years (1 ly = 10 trillion km or 1013km)
- The sun is a typical average star about 28,000 light years from the MW centre (just over half way to the edge).
