The leaders of Myanmar and four Southeast Asian neighbours -- Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Vietnam -- vowed at a summit Tuesday to strengthen subregional cooperation in the eight areas of trade and investment, agriculture, industry and energy, transportation, tourism, human resources development, public health, and environmental conservation.
The pledge was contained in a declaration issued at the 6th Ayeyawady-Chao Phraya-Mekong Economic Co-operation Strategy Summit in Myanmar's capital Nay Pyi Taw, along with a three-year action plan to accomplish the goals of the sub-regional development framework.
Speaking to reporters after the summit, Myanmar President Thein Sein said five leaders exchanged views on those eight areas of cooperation in order to promote peace, stability and sustainable development among the countries of the three river basins.
