The study aims to 1) analyze the characteristics of language usage
of advertising in newspapers 2) make Thai for Communication exercises and 3) study
opinion of students toward Thai Exercises. The data was collected from three daily
newspapers on December, 2013. The samples were 32 information system major
students who took the course of the Thai for communications in the first semester
of year 2014.
The findings of the research were obvious that eight kinds of words are
used reduplication, namely; rhyme, metaphor, transliterations, clipped word, slang,
English word and word imitating voice. According to the use of advertising
language structure, there were three characteristics: normal structures, phrases,
and structures starting with verb. Regarding the purposes of advertisement, there
were six purposes: the emphasis on quality products and services, the invitation
to try products and services, the emphasis on low price, the giveaway gifts, the
reward, and the emphasis on presenting better quality when compared with other
competitive products and services. The researcher made use of the results to design
three Thai exercises were writing advertising language with the given pictures,
describing the categories of product and service from the given advertising, and
describing the characteristics of the use of words and the purpose of delivering
advertising language. In addition, the students’ opinion towards each exercise was
in high level.
