Palladium-catalyzed coupling reactions have been used extensively in synthetic
chemistry and feature many types of reactions such as Suzuki,24 Hiyama,25 Negishi,26
Kumada,27 and also Stille couplings.4
The first reported examples of the Stille coupling
reaction were in 1977 by Kosugi, Shimizu and Migita.4 More detailed studies on the
reaction were done later by Stille and thus the reaction is known by his name.28 The
Stille coupling is schematically represented below (Scheme 12).
