Drying is
a time-consuming
, energy intensive
and
expensive process
required
in most industries. The
present study is part of a more general attempt to
analyze convective drying characteristics in textiles in
order that a mathematical description of the overall
process can be established. The main focus of this
investigation is the development of a simplified
mathematical model in a convective drying process of
textiles. Even after simplifying the model to facilitate
its usability, it provides predictions that closely agree
withexperimentalresults.Thesimplified
mathematical model can accurately predict drying
characteristics for convective drying of wool fibres.
When a wet solid is subjected to thermal drying
two processes occur simultaneously, namely:
(i) Transfer of heat to raise the wet solid temperature
and to evaporate the moisture content.
(ii) Transfer of mass in the form of internal moisture
to the surface of the solid and its subsequent
evaporation.
