In this study, we designed a MPCR protocol for the simultaneous identification of Enterococcus isolates at the genus level and detection of vancomycin resistance genes.
Moreover, the protocol was combined with a fast DNA extraction procedure, which permitted rapid isolation of DNA by boiling from a few colonies.
The amplification of part of the tuf gene permitted the accurate identification of Enterococcus isolates at the genus level and the use of the van primers allowed the detection of the vanA, vanB, vanC1 and vanC2/C3 vancomycin resistance genes.
