In official Ironman competitions the permission of the use of wetsuits depends on the water temperature. Wetsuits are permitted when the water temperature is up to 24.5°C or colder but will be prohibited in water temperatures higher than 28.8°C. Athletes who choose wearing a wetsuit in water temperatures between 24.5°C and 28.8°C are allowed to participate but are not eligible for age-group awards or for qualifying slots for the Ironman World Championship
