The creation of an immigration narrative and a diorama depicting an aspect of the transit to the United States is at the core of the Parents Beyond Borders curriculum and occurred during the middle phase of the group in Sessions 5 through 9. Due to the traumatic nature of the topic at hand, the cocoordinators of the ParentShip Program strongly believe that a struc- tured curriculum was needed. A guided discussion of the trauma experience, taking care to reiterate the purpose and to include pre- and postevent inter- actions, created an accurate and coherent narrative of the trauma experience, which is crucial to creating a feeling of safety and containment in the group (Foy, Eriksson, & Trice, 2001).
