Based on homology with enzymes of the GH3 family, ten putative
bgl genes (cel3a-h) have been identified in the genome of
T. reesei (20). However, only two of the ten bgl genes have been
biochemically characterized. In this study, we performed a phylogenetic
tree analysis based on an alignment generated by ClustalW
from the predicted amino acid sequences of GH3 b-glucosidases
from T. reesei and other fungi to identify the T. reesei homolog of
AaBGL1 with high cellobiase activity (Fig. 1).
