The plantlets produced were thoroughly washed under tap
water and the basal portion kept dipped in 0.2% solution of
fungicide (Bavistin) for 2 min. They were then planted in a
mixture of sand, brick or tile and charcoal pieces and coir fiber
(1:4:4:2), and acclimatized in Biotron LPH 200 (Japan) with a
temperature of 25 2 8C, humidity 85 5% and 12 h light
period (25 mmol m2 s
1
). The plantlets were transferred to
net-house after 30 days, and subsequently to small pots.
The experiments were run in a completely randomised
design. Twenty replicates were raised for each treatment and
the best treatments were repeated twice. The mean values of
different treatments were compared using Duncan’s multiple
range test (Duncan, 1955).
