Classroom roles. The official classroom division of labor between Marta and Alphonse was mandated by their positions as lead and assistant teacher. Sensitive to each other's situation and needs, they functioned smoothly within the structure. When one or the other was absent, differences were minor and seemed natural given their different strengths and personalities. There was absolutely no indication that Alphonso had difficulty functioning in the subordinate role of AT, to Marta's position as lead teacher.
