Tetrahymenine ciliate, cells 30-80 microns long and with ovoid shape. The oral region is situated subapically on the ventral side. The axis of the paroral membrane runs slightly oblique within the oral cavity. The oral ciliature consists of three membranelles. This ciliate has uniform somatic ciliature, usually with several postoral kineties. The preoral suture is oblique to the left side of oral aperture. Typically, a single macronucleus is situated in the middle of the cell whereas the contractile vacuole is in the posterior. Habitat and distribution: freshwater, benthic; common.
