Roads that are used to convey rocks can be
damaged. Houses along transportation routes may be affected by
dust, vibration, and noise. Breakwaters may not be appropriate for
certain locations such as tourism destinations. Local communities
may not agree to have the breakwaters as a suitable coastal
protection measure. These concerns led Thailand through the Office
of Natural Resources and Environmental Policy and Planning
(ONEP) to initiate legislation in August 2009. In Thailand, every
breakwater project must undergo an environmental impact
assessment (EIA) prior to its construction. The intended objective of
the EIA is to protect innocent people and vulnerable environmental
resources from being affected.
