Royal jelly is a substance produced by honeybees that has several nutritional properties, which makes it a common ingredient in nutritional supplements. During 2013 the use and awareness of royal jelly in beauty and personal care products, especially among direct sellers, increased after the launch of several new products. Jafra Cosmetics International launched a line called Royal Jelly that includes body complex, hand complex SFP15, facial moisturising lotion, facial lift concentrate, eye concentrate capsules and a milk balm with “Sirtuin activators and Cellspan complex” which aims to moisturise and prevent signs of ageing. Jafra Royal Jelly is positioned as a premium line. Avon also has royal jelly products in skin care but with different price positioning – the hand, body, facial and lip moisturising products are part of its economy line Avon Care. Examples of mass royal jelly brands sold through retail stores include Grisi Royal Jelly (Laboratorios Grisi Hermanos), which is positioned as an anti-ageing product, and Tío Nacho (Genomma Lab Internacional), which is a body care product with royal jelly and donkey milk.
