Nurses should never discuss, outside their physical practice
areas, information about the children or families obtained in
the course of their work. No discussion about children and
their families should take place in a public area where it can
be overheard. All documents pertaining to a child and their
care should be kept in a safe and secure place. Information
about a patient and their family should only be shared
with other professionals on a ‘need-to-know’ basis, and any
disclosure of information to any party concerned should
normally be subject to permission from the child and/or
their legal carer
