Participants in Sample 2 included 187 candidates for customer service
positions in a department store in 2003. In terms of sample demographics,
81.2% of the sample were female (mean age = 32.9 years,
SD = 15.2 years) and 18.8% were male (mean age = 30.0 years, SD =
11.2 years).Atotal of 75.5% of the sample described themselves as White.
Moreover, 75% of the sample described themselves as having engaged in
some high school education while the remaining 25% reported holding
professional or tertiary training qualifications. Assessors were line managers,
and assessor training lasted 6 hours and included (a) instructions on
using the checklists, (b) dimension definitions, (c) a frame-of-reference
component (see Schleicher et al. 2002; Woehr & Huffcutt, 1994), and (d)
the opportunity to practice ratings.
