Many clausal constructions have been extensively studied with respect to their syntactic form and inherent meaning. Among these constructions is the English ditransitive construction. In terms of form, the ditransitive construction consists of a verb followed by two object NPs; it is typically used to convey the meaning ‘X causes Y to receive Z’. Examples of ditransitive sentences are given in (42)
