C. botulinum strains in this group produce type C and D toxins and are genetically related to C. novyi.Members of this group are non-proteolytic and have higher optimal growth temperatures than members of groups I and II.A distinguishing feature of the lipidome of C. novyi is the presence of the aminoacyl-PGs lysyl- and alanyl-PG.Like C. novyi, strain D1873 contains both lysyl-PG and alanyl-PG ( Fig. 5 ), and strain C. Africa CP contains only lysyl-PG. Lysyl-PG was also observed in C. botulinum Alaska E (Fig. S1).
