The subject of corporate cash holdings has attracted considerable attention by researchers in recent years.
Although numerous empirical studies examine various facets of cash holdings, little evidence exists on this topic
directly from managers. To help fill this gap, we survey the CFOs of 1,000 large US companies to learn their
views about corporate cash holdings. Not surprisingly, some of our findings support existing empirical evidence
while others do not. Such inconsistencies may result from the different samples, time periods, and
methodologies used in the various studies.
