There was no significant difference between the meanfasted liveweights of the buffalo [444.8 f 15.3 (S.E.) kg]and the Brahman steers (438.8 + 16.5 kg). Similarly meanhot carcass weights did not differ significantly betweenbuffalo (225.7 f 6.6 kg) and Brahman (237.7 f 10.9 kg)steers. However, the Brahman steers had a significantlygreater mean (P< 0.01) dressing percentage, 54.06 + 0.70%,than the buffalo steers, 50.82 f 0.47%. The subcutaneousfat over the LD, at the last rib, of the buffalo (7.6 + 0.7mm) was deeper (P < 0.05) than that (5.3 + 0.8 mm) ofthe Brahman carcasses
