Then a wired network was laid out using CAT6 cables in a single-hop, star formation with a central switch.
The switch used was different depending on the data being collected: a Netgear FS524 megabit switch was used during megabit-backbone data collection, and a Netgear JGS524 gigabit switch was used during gigabit-backbone data collection.
Next, three wireless access points were configured: (1) a Linksys BEFW11S4 wireless router running only 802.11b on 2.4GHz channel 1; (2) a D-Link DWL-3200 access point running only 802.11g on 2.4GHz channel 8; and (3) a D-Link DGL-4500 wireless router running only 802.11n on 5GHz channel 151.
Note that the wireless routers were used as access points only.
Also, all wireless APs/routers were configured so that they could not interfere with each other.
