Anniversary Celebration Aquarium
In 1999, His Majesty King Bhumibol Adujadej, the Ninth King of the Royal House of Chakri turned 72 golden years old. Here at the Department of Fisheries,in the Kung Krabaen BayRoyal Development Study Center and Office of the Royal Development Projects Boards celebrated the 72nd Birthday Anniversary (Golden-Jubilee) of H.M.King Bhumibol Aduljadej of Thailand by creating the Kung Krabaen Aquarium. The sixth cycle Birthday Anniversary Celebration Aquarium (KKB Aquarium), located at Laem Sadet Beach, was founded and created due to the Sixth Cycles Birthday Annivesary Celebration. The First Phase was formally opened on 5th of July 2002 in which Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn graciously presided over its opening ceremony. The Second Phase was formally opened on the 1st of November, 2007. A total of 36 aquariums were built during the first phase consisting of 20 tanks with 900 litres, and 16 tanks with 1000litres. During the second phase they built 17 more aquariums, in which 15 tanks contained 2000 litres, 1 tank which contained 3000 litres and an incredibly large tank containing 200,000 litres. Of all the fish collected for the aquarium, 80% were collected from the Eastern Part of Thailand. Within the aquarium the fish are divided into 4 groups, commerical fish, ornamental fish, coral reef fish and exotic fish.
