A wide range of drugs can induce a hypersensitivity
reaction, as shown in Table 2. In the event that a patient
has a hypersensitivity reaction (such as rash,
hives, eosinophilia, or fever) to a medication or any
substance, discontinue the drug or end patient contact
with the antigen immediately and monitor the patient
closely for any signs of acute allergic interstitial
nephritis, which may not be evident for seven to
10 days after the initial reaction.
