In conclusion, this paper introduces an effective method to metalize wool fabric with more functions. This process contains the TCEP pretreatment of wool fabric and electroless silver plating.
The results have demonstrated this surface modification is efficient on the keratinous substrates as confirmed by FTIR spectra. From the SEM images, XRD and EDX tests, it can be seen that there is uniform and compact silver film on the wool surface after plating. The antibacterial efficiency of silver-plated wool fabric is 99.9% against E. coli. The anti-mould activity of silver-plated fabric was against Aspergillus niger with level of 0 indicating excellent anti-mould activity. In a word, this preparation is an effective way to modify the keratinous substrates with great antibacterial and anti-mould properties.
