We think it is essential that knowledge
and theory be taught in the context
of practical problem-solving. It is not
sufficient for a qualified worker to be able
to parrot back their knowledge when
prompted. They have to have been taught
in a way that ensures that knowledge
comes to mind when it is useful. This
awareness of the future context of
retrieval, enabling vocational learners to
anticipate those contexts, and practising
the application of knowledge to support
thinking in context, is vital.
