In February 1973, he set out from the city of Ushuaia at the bottom of South America, farther south than any other city in the world, and wallked north - through seven countries, in all weathers in all temperatures, along main roads, along narrow tracks, along tracks at all. He walked the length of South America as far as Panama City. He walked for a year and a half.
