The interviewed households did not always pass through the decision-making process in the same way for other vacations between 1991 and 1998. Various personal and vacation characteristics or factors influenced the extensiveness of the process. The most important personal factor appears to be the level of previous experience. Important vacation characteristics mentioned in the interviews are: length of stay (short break versus long vacation), level of organization (organized trip versus self-organized vacation), travel party composition, type of vacation and vacation activities, type of accommodation and travel mode. In this paragraph these factors will be described point-by- point, although in reality these factors often closely correlate.
