ment to SCI was also investigated by Rintala et al.48
These authors examined the impact social support had
on physical well being, life satisfaction, and depression
in a sample of 140 individuals with a SCI. This study
was designed to replicate and extend work previously
done by Schultz and Decker.19 Participants completed
the CES-D22 and the Life Satisfaction Index.21 Social
support and health status was determined with a 4
point Likert Scale using the descriptions of excellent,
good, fair, and poor.19
