Did you know that the dog was probably the first wild animal to be tamed by man? Bones of dogs have been found with those of cave men. No one know or why cave men began to keep dogs. Perhaps a cave man brouht home a little wolf cub. As the cub grew up with people, it was friendly. Maybe pet wolves helped cave men by chasing wild animals away from the cave homes. (Wolves and dogs are part of the same animal family.) Today dogs are still kept as pets and people love them. But they also work for man. Dogs are trained to help people in many ways. They herd sheey and cattle. They hunt. They guard people homes and businesses. They act as "seeing eye" dogs. They've come a long way from the cave man's wolf pet.
